Why AskTransit

Transit shouldn't need a tutorial

Getting around the GTA means juggling a dozen agencies, each with its own app, map and fare rules — and a cross-city trip can touch three of them. AskTransit started from a simple idea: you should be able to ask the way you'd ask a friend who knows the system, and get one clear answer grounded in real schedules and live data. No stop codes, no app-switching, no guesswork.

Features

Everything you need to get there

No menus to learn, no stop codes to memorize. Ask a question, get a real answer — grounded in live schedules and real-time vehicle data.

Plan in plain English

Ask the way you'd ask a friend. AskTransit understands destinations, landmarks, cross-city addresses and follow-ups like “any faster options?” — then plans a real route from where you are.

  • Up to 5 route options, fastest first
  • Leave-at or arrive-by times
  • Estimated fare, including the cheaper PRESTO price

FAQ

Questions, answered

When does AskTransit launch?

We're in the final stretch before the App Store and Google Play. Join the waitlist and you'll get one email the day it's live — nothing before that.

Do I need an account to use it?

No. The free tier works entirely as a guest — plan trips, see nearby stops and routes, and get fare estimates without signing in. You only sign in (with Google or Apple) if you want to save places and trips or subscribe to Plus.

Which cities and agencies are covered?

Routing works within TTC, GO Transit, MiWay, Brampton Transit, York Region Transit, Durham Region Transit, Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Hamilton Street Railway and London Transit — with GO's regional network connecting them across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. More regions are being added.

How accurate are the times?

Routes are built on official GTFS schedules, and real-time delays and vehicle positions come straight from each agency's public feed where one exists. AskTransit never guesses a route — it plans with the same data transit agencies publish, and the assistant only helps you ask and understand it.

What's the difference between Free and Plus?

Free covers planning: routes, schedules, nearby stops, fares and accessible routing. Plus adds the live, hands-free layer — step-by-step navigation, real-time delays, the live vehicle map, saved places, and commute and disruption alerts. Plus is $3.99/month or $29.99/year, with a 7-day free trial, and there's a $2.99 one-time 7-day pass for visitors.

How is my location and data handled?

Location is used to plan your trips and isn't stored on our servers unless you explicitly save a place or trip. Guest mode keeps nothing durable. See our Privacy Policy for exactly what's collected, why, and how long it's kept.

Will it be on both iOS and Android?

Yes — AskTransit launches on both the App Store and Google Play.
